Product Background

PolkaFantasy was primarily a Web3 game & NFT project. As the project matured a wider strategy was formed with the hopes of assisting traditional game development companies explore and develop for the Web3 gaming industry.

Fantasypad was a web3 launchpad, which is essentially a crowd funding platform. This would be the first step in our ecosystem to help game companies by providing a platform for crowdfunding the resources needed to start development. After initial token sales, projects could provide token staking to their supporters and sell NFT assets on our game marketplace

Responsibilities

  • Conducted secondary research and competitive analysis.

  • Formulate a product roadmap, then gather and define requirements.

  • Provide design & art direction to external design team.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design highlevel user flows & define technical requirements.

  • Lead bi-weekly meetings to monitor and report on project status to stakeholders.

  • Conduct user acceptance testing, log & track bug fixing to confirm product development according to the project requirements.

  • Coordinate with marketing team to launch the product.

  • Perform ad-hoc tasks to manage the platform after launch.

Outcomes

Unfortunately, due to time restrictions and changes in the technical requirements of the project, the timeline of the entire project shifted. Also, resources for the project were no longer sufficient to continue development. Therefore we reduced the scope of the MVP to only provide token staking to users.

Although the scope of the product had changed, the project was still overall a success as FantasyPad was launched on March 29th, 2023. This was considered a ‘beta’ version launch since it only provided a staking feature. For this reason, the staking period was only open for 1 week. During that time over 300 stakes were made and a total of 8.6 million XP tokens were staked (equivalent to 122,857,14 USD at the time).

Lessons

The biggest lesson from this project was that requirements needed to be more specific, or at least the scope needed to be properly defined. More research regarding the different types of staking mechanisms and technical implementations may have helped expedite major decisions during project planning and requirements definition.
